For small restaurants, cafés and pubs
Tips split fairly, in two minutes a week.
Type the week’s tips and everyone’s hours. It works out each share to the penny and keeps the record you’re required to keep, ready the day someone asks. For small restaurants, cafés and pubs.

How it works
Three steps, once a week
Type the week’s tips and everyone’s hours
Last week’s names are already there. Only the numbers change.
It works out each person’s share to the penny
By hours, with a different share for anyone who should get more. The shares always add up to the total.
It keeps the record, writes your policy and reminds you when to pay
Every week stored for 3 years. An email on Sunday if you haven’t saved, and on the 20th with what must be paid.
Try the sum
Change the total or the hours. Each share is the total × hours ÷ all the hours, rounded to the penny, and any spare pennies go to the largest remainders.
Adds up to £842.60
What you get
The sum, the record, the policy, the reminders
Each share to the penny
Hours times share, divided fairly. A supervisor can be 1.2. Leftover pennies are placed so the shares add up exactly to what came in.
The record it keeps
For each week: the amount received, the amount paid to each person, and any amount passed to a troncmaster. Kept for 3 years, then deleted.
One press to show a person their record
Press a name, pick the months, and print or send the page. It shows what came in and what they were paid.
A plain policy, and a note to staff
Answer four questions and get a draft policy and a short note for asking your staff first, with a review date 3 years on.
What it doesn’t do
It never holds or pays money, and it doesn’t do tax or payroll. You pay staff the usual way and give your payroll the figures. Tiptally is sold to businesses, not the public.
What the rules ask, in plain words

Questions
Fair questions
Do I have to split by hours?
No. Hours is the starting point, and you can give anyone a different share, say more for a supervisor. The rules ask for clear, fair reasons, so it’s worth agreeing them with your staff and writing them in your policy.
What if tips go through a troncmaster?
You can record the amount you passed to them. The record then shows what came in and where it went.
What if a member of staff asks to see their record?
Press their name and pick the months. You get a page you can print or send, showing what came in and what they were paid.
Does it write our tips policy?
It drafts a plain one from four questions, covering what the policy has to say. It also drafts a short note for asking your staff first, which you’ll need from 1 January 2027. Check it fits how you work.
Does it pay the staff?
No. It never touches the money. It gives you the figures, and you pay them through payroll as usual, with the usual tax.
Does it cover cash tips?
If you collect cash tips and share them out, add them to the total. If staff simply keep what’s left on their tables, the rules don’t apply to those.
How much is it?
£19 a month for one venue, whatever the number of staff. The first 7 days are free and no card is needed. Cancel at any time. It’s sold to businesses only.
Where do the figures come from?
Only from you: the tips total, first names and hours you type in. Nothing is pulled from your till or bank. The rules summarised on this page come from Acas and GOV.UK, and each links to its source. Your venue’s records are kept for the 3 years the law asks, then deleted, and used for nothing else.
